🌋 Strokkur Geyser
The hills were quiet. Then the ground began to hiss. The sound of boiling earth. The smell of sulfur. I wondered if this is what hell smells like. We walked the path. Steam vents spewed beside us, low, constant, like breath from the belly of the world. Pools bubbled. Mud popped.
Great Geysir has been asleep since around 2016. But Strokkur is wide awake. It pulsed. It paused. Then it roared. Water shot high— blueish-white, fast, angry. Then silence. The earth whispered in heat and hiss. We listened.
It rose again. A breath. A blast. Then stillness. The rhythm of something older than us. Cameras clicked, tourists applauded, some dote was not watching their kid who went past the guard rail and was moments away from being barbequed by mother nature. She spoke in steam and stone….get your kid as we stand in awe.
